STL viewer and 3D print cost calculator
Open an STL, 3MF or OBJ file to see it in 3D, check its size, volume and filament weight, and get the price to print it at fairfab. It's free and there's nothing to install. Your file is deleted as soon as it's measured. Got a CAD file? The STEP viewer opens .step and .stp files the same way, and the STL converter turns STEP, 3MF, OBJ and GLB files into STL.
Drag to turn, scroll or pinch to zoom.

Your part
This part is under 10 mm across. STL and OBJ files have no units, so if it was drawn in inches it's 25.4 times bigger than shown: re-export it in millimetres.
Will it fit your printer?
| Printer | Build volume (mm) | Your part |
|---|
“Turned diagonally” means it fits at an angle on the bed. “On its side” means it fits if you lay it another way up, which can change how it prints.
How the calculator works
- 3D view. Your file is drawn in your browser, so you can turn it and zoom in before you order. Look at it from the front, top or side, show its edges, cut a section through it, measure between two points, save a picture, or save a 3MF or OBJ as an STL. Big files can take a few seconds to appear.
- Size. We measure the part's bounding box in millimetres. 3MF files store their units and we convert them; STL and OBJ files don't, so we read their numbers as millimetres.
- Volume. If the mesh is closed (watertight), we measure exactly how much plastic it holds. If it has holes, we can't measure it, so the price uses a cautious estimate based on its size instead.
- Filament. The weight is for PLA at 15% infill, the setting we print most parts at. Solid parts and supports use more.
- Fit. We compare the part with each printer's build volume, then try turning it diagonally on the bed and laying it on each side.
- Price. The same calculation as our quote page: a one-off £7.50 setup fee per part plus the printing cost, for one copy with 3-4 days turnaround and free collection from Dalston, without supports. Orders start at £30 of printed parts. Your exact price, with supports, colours, quantities and delivery, is on the quote page.
Build volumes of common 3D printers
Manufacturers' figures, width × depth × height. Leave a few millimetres spare: brims and skirts take up room on the bed.

Questions
How can I view an STL file without installing anything?
Open it in the viewer above. It draws STL, 3MF and OBJ files in 3D in your browser, on a phone or a computer. You can turn and zoom the model, view it from the front, top or side, cut a section and measure it while the calculator works out its size and print price.
How much does it cost to 3D print an STL file?
It depends mostly on how much plastic the part needs. At fairfab each part has a one-off £7.50 setup fee, plus the printing cost, which comes from the part's measured volume. Upload your file above to see the price for one copy in PLA or PETG with 3-4 days turnaround.
How do I know if my model will fit my 3D printer?
Compare the part's bounding box with your printer's build volume. The calculator does this for common printers, and also tries turning the part diagonally on the bed or laying it on another side, which is often enough to fit a part that looks too long.
How much filament will my print use?
The calculator estimates the filament weight at 15% infill, the setting we print most parts at. Solid parts, thick walls or supports use more.
Is my file saved when I use the calculator?
No. The 3D view is drawn in your browser. To measure the file we upload it, then delete it straight away: nothing is stored and no quote is created. To order, upload it on the quote page.
Why does the calculator say my part is tiny?
STL and OBJ files have no units, so we read them as millimetres. A part drawn in inches comes out 25.4 times too small. Re-export it in millimetres.
